SCYA Midwinter’s at MBYCFebruary 18 - 19
Story
6 Vanguard 15s ventured to Mission Bay YC this past weekend for the 77th SCYA Midwinter's Regatta. Driving south on Saturday morning it looked like every Midwinter's from memory, wind, rain, and boats going both ways on the freeway, but this year we were lucky and the weather avoided us.

Saturday was a great day for sailing, it started light in the first race but building towards the end. The next two races were awesome as the whole fleet got up to speed and enjoyed the shifty conditions. After racing ended our fleet stayed out, set up teams, and team raced for 90 minutes. To say we were rusty was an understatement but it was fun. After some roundings the 29er parents ran starts for us and giving us the opportunity to really team race.

The whole fleet headed fro Fred's for dinner, NBA dunk contest, and some really bad 80s music.

Sunday we woke to find everything soaked from the overnight rain, but it was sunny and the breeze came in early. We had 2 more races, as our fleet fought its was through and around half a dozen other fleets including keelboats and skiffs which made for tough lanes upwind, interesting mark rounding, and brought our fleet into closer proximity then most needed, resulting in some circles on the last beat. The rain came while we were off the water having lunch and none of us got wet!!!!

Thanks to all who came to sail and stayed to team race on Saturday. Thanks to the race committee, the 29er parents who ran extra races, and Mission Bay YC for allowing us to race.
